Who We Are
Via Media Dallas is a group of moderate lay and clergy Episcopalians in the Diocese of Dallas that advocates openness, balanced and accurate information, and clarity of thought about issues facing The Episcopal Church. Via Media is defined as "the middle way" and often refers to the Episcopal Church's traditional openness to wide-ranging theological interpretations. The Via Media name is currently being used by many organizations around the country who wish to remain affiliated both with The Episcopal Church as well as the Anglican Communion. The Via Media Dallas group is a mixture of laity and clergy, liberal/moderate/conservative, and straight/gay or lesbian, who hold all shades of thought regarding issues facing the church but are united in desiring to remain a part of The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. Under the name of The Gathering, some members of the group have met, very informally, over the last seven or eight years as a support/discussion group.
As events have unfolded in the Dallas Diocese and elsewhere and similar groups began springing up across the country, renaming the group Via Media Dallas seemed a logical step. Representatives of a dozen groups from around the country met in Atlanta at the end of March and have formed an organization called Via Media USA. Like Dallas, most are located in dioceses where the bishop supports the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes.
